SWO Success: Ken Staude, UW-Oshkosh Alum

Title: Sr. SAM Technical Consultant

Where did you go to college?: I attended “University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh”, graduating with a degree from the College of Business in Management Information Systems.Staude.Ken_Pic

How long have you been with SWO?: I just had my “5 year SWO-versary” in December 2015.

What has been your career progression thus far?: Starting at SoftwareONE knowing very little about software licensing beyond installing software for my job was an interesting jump of profession. Knowing even less about Software Asset Management (SAM), I started on a small team in the US and have now grown to 20+ team here and another 250+ globally. I’ve had the opportunity to work with and build a great team and also interact with some of the largest (and smallest) companies locally and globally. I feel working at SoftwareONE nearly 5 years has only scratched the surface of what the career opportunity holds for me. I’m excited to see myself, everyone else and the company continue to grow year after year.

Favorite part about working at SWO: I would have to say the best part of working at SoftwareONE (SWO), is that there isn’t just one thing to love about the company or the job itself, but rather many different aspects. The people and culture are what make this company what it is from the CEO down and any person that steps through the door, visitor or employee can see that right up front. Everyone tends to put others in front of themselves and that is first and foremost our customers and our fellow co-workers.

It’s a work hard, play hard environment. No one here holds back on either of those, which makes it a great place to be!

Biggest challenge you’ve faced at SWO: With SoftwareONE’s continued success comes growth, and with that growth comes new challenges each and every day. Not only here in the United States, but also in every one of our subsidiaries around the world. For me, keeping up with changing landscape of our work and even just the new faces we welcome to the team each week or month can definitely take its toll. However, with these challenges also comes great success, rewards and opportunities for us to grow.

What activities do you enjoy in your spare time?: While I can say that SoftwareONE does play a huge part of my life when it comes to true friends, experiences and activities, I do tend to find some spare time here and there. I enjoy playing volleyball year round (with or without SWO-folks), biking, stopping at Miller Park for a Brewers game or one of the fine breweries around the area. I’m a huge enthusiast of anything Milwaukee!

Favorite SWO Pun?: SWO so hard!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years: In 5 more years, I hope to be writing another one of these. Calling out the good times and the hard times here at SoftwareONE, but also how everyone and the company were able to grow and mature globally together.

Advice to people interested in a SWO Career: While the first few days (read “months or years”) may seem like drinking from a firehose, consider that an experience in of itself. Just know that no one becomes an expert overnight and that everyone around is willing to help.
